Denali Angler: Year One.

My wife, Denise, and I first bought property in the Denali area in 1992 and it’s been one of the best decisions we’ve ever made:  we have a national park on our doorstep, the Alaska Range out our window, and some of the best fly fishing anywhere.  We spend our summers here at the little cabin that we built picking berries, hiking, canoeing, and--of course--fly fishing for grayling.

We are so lucky.

So lucky that we wanted to share our luck with others...and so this summer we’ll be guiding folks to the creeks and rivers that we’ve come to love.

In the past, I owned and operated the Alaska Fly Company, a fly fishing tour company that took fly anglers on epic two-week road trips throughout the state, fly fishing from the interior to the coast.  And while that business was a great deal of fun, I’ve realized that I would prefer sticking a bit closer to Cantwell.  What’s more, when I used to bring anglers all over the state, many of them preferred the dry fly fishing in the Denali area.  Why?

It’s simple.  The area where we fish is gorgeous.  It’s not crowded.   There’s no combat fishing here.  (As you’ll find in some of Alaska’s better know salmon rivers.)  The fish are plentiful and usually eager to take dry flies.  What’s not to love about fishing small clearwater creeks in the mountains for beautiful fish that take dries most days?

So many of my former clients loved this area.

One of my good friends who comes north to fish with me quite regularly says that one of the rivers that we fish (a river that I won’t name, sorry) is his favorite river to fish anywhere.  Understand that this is high praise--because it’s from a guy who is a hardcore fly fisherman who has fished all over the country.  He’s told me that it’s because the area is fantastically wild and scenic, with water so clear and fish so striking and willing to rise.  He loves it.  I get it.

So this summer is year one for Denali Angler.  We’re excited because we think we’ve got something pretty special to offer you.  We love where we fish and we think you will, too.  We’re looking forward to meeting you and showing off what we think is a pretty special place.  Email me at denaliangler@gmail.com.

Take care,

George Rogers
